Sri Ganganagar

The town named Sri Ganganagar is the administrative headquarters of Sri Ganganagar district. It is the northernmost town of Rajasthan and one of the few well planned towns in the country. The town is named after the Maharaja of Bikaner, Shri Ganga Singh Bahadur. It is famous for food cultivation and its infrastructure and is rightly called as the “Green District”.

Places to Stay
There are several budget hotels in Sri Ganganagar which provide good accommodation to guests. Some of them are Hotel Shagun (Tariff – Rs. 600), Hotel Khurana Palace (Tariff – Rs. 600), Kashish Hotel (Tariff – Rs. 700) and Pagoda Hotel (Tariff – Rs. 1300).

Language
The official language of Sri Ganganagar is Hindi. Other major languages including Bagri and Punjabi are also spoken in Sri Ganganagar.

Events
Important fairs and festivals celebrated in Sri Ganganagar are Diwali (October-November), Holi, Gogameri Mela, Bhadrakali Mela and Ramzan.

Places of Interest
There are several places of tourist interest in and around Sri Ganganagar. Some of them are Balaji Dham (3 km away), Hindumal Kot Border (30 km away), Gurudwara Sri Budha Johar Shahab (2 km away) and Laila Majnu ki Mazar (120 km away).

How to Get There
Air:
Amritsar airport is the nearest airport to Sri Ganganagar. It is about 270 km away.

Rail:
Sri Ganganagar Junction is 2 km away from the bus station and it is well connected to Delhi, Rewari, Kalka, Howrah, Bathinda, Haridwar, Nanded, Firozpur, Suratgarh and Hanumangarh.

Bus:

There are daily buses available to Sri Ganganagar main bust stand from Jaipur, Delhi, Jodhpur, Chandigarh and Amritsar. Some of the best bus operators that offer good experience to passengers are Shri Sai Travels, Ambika Travels, Dashmesh Travels, Shri Nath Ambika Travels, New Brar Travels, Varun Travels, New Kochar Travels, Shree Mahaveer Travels and Khan Travels.
