The city of Raigarh is
situated in Chhattisgarh. It is the administrative capital of the Raigarh
district. Raigarh is one of Chhattisgarh’s blooming industrial cities and is a
major producer of Iron Ore and Steel. Raigarh was once a princely state and was
the first of its kind to join the Union of India.

languages are Hindi, Chhattisgari and

Events
Raigarh is famous for
its dance and musical events. It is well-known for Kathak style of dancing. The
festival of Ganesha Chatturthi is celebrated grandly in this city. During this
festival Charadhar Samorah is organized. Other delightful festivals such as
Hareli, which is celebrated during monsoon every year, Diwali and Dussehra,
which falls during the months of October and November, are also celebrated.
Places of Interest
Raigarh offers various
attractions to its visitors. Some interesting places include Gomarda Reserve
Forest (60 km from Raigarh) and Ram Jharna (18 km from Raigarh). Legend has it
that Lord Rama was once there during the 14 year Vanwasa. Kamala Nehru Park,
Rose Garden and Eco Park are other attractions within the city which can be
reached using local transportation facilities.
How to Get There
Air:
Raigarh airport
located at Kondatarai is 9 km away from the city centre. This airport is not
operational yet. The next closest airport is in Raipur, which is 250 km away.
Rail:
Raigarh is well connected
with major destinations like New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Patna,
Kota, and Jaipur. Raigarh has two railway stations – one is at the centre of
the city and other is in Kirodimal Nagar, which is about 11 km away from the
city.
Bus:
Buses connect Raigarh with cities such as Raipur, Ranchi,
Pathalgaon, Bargarh, Korba, Sitapur, Sambalpur, Kunkuri and Angul. AC and
Non-AC buses connect Raigarh with those cities. Some of the best bus operators that
offer good experience to passengers are Mahendra Travels and CSRTC (state
owned).
